The black soldier fly is often found in the vicinity of poultry and pig rearing units where their larvae feed on manure or compost. BSF larvae are able to utilize massive amounts of organic waste and reduce their upleasant smells. They reduce effiently the accumulation of polutting compounds from manures and composts. They also modify the bacterial microflora bby reducing the ocurrence or abundance of undesirable bacteria.
